Merge duplicate contacts after uploading vcards

Without realizing it, I had my Google account set as the default for my contacts. However, I would like all my contacts to be with my Apple account. So, I downloaded the vcards from my Google account and uploaded them into my iCloud account. This created a lot of duplicate accounts in my Apple iCloud account. Is there a way for my iCloud account to look for duplicates and let me decide if they should be merged?

Prior to downloading the vcards, Google listed a few contacts that looked like duplicates. It then gave me the option to merge them. It showed the information for both contacts and gave me the option to merge or not merge them. This would be very helpful for my iCloud account.

I know there is the option to delete one of the duplicates. This will take a lot of time because of the steps involved.

  • Review the contacts and decide which one needs to be deleted.
  • Click on 'Edit' at the top of the page.
  • Click on 'Delete Contact' at the bottom of the page.
  • Finally, click on 'Delete' in the popup in the middle of the page.

If something needs to be copied from one and pasted to the other, this is even more steps to follow.

Thank you for trying to help with this issue. However, I have already looked at this answer. I have even accessed the link to Apple Support as it states for those using iCloud.com. This answer is for those using a Mac, which I didn’t have. This wasn’t mentioned; however, I did state I was doing this on iCloud.com. Apple support wasn’t helpful either. It only gave me basic information about using contacts on iCloud.com.

The only other thing I found was to link all the duplicate contacts. Linking the contacts would take even longer then deleting them one at a time. From what I can tell, there is no way to merge duplicate contacts in iCloud.com. Because of this I went through my entire list and deleted the duplicate that wasn’t needed. A few of them did need to have information copied. This was possible because I have less then 400 contacts that were kept. If someone has 1,000 or more, deleting them one at a time would be far to time consuming. Thus, it would be helpful if Apple would add merge to iCloud.com and not just for those who have a Mac.
