Music and Safe Mode will not launch

Suddenly today the Music app on my Mac desktop running Catalina 10.15.6 decides it will not launch. My first action was to run the diagnostic with CMD-R. No issues. I tried to launch Safe Mode, and that does not launch either. Although I've have done this innumerable times in the past, I checked in the macOS User Guide for this and found:

On your Mac, choose Apple menu > Shut Down.
After your Mac shuts down, wait 10 seconds, then press the power button.
Immediately after your Mac starts (some Mac computers play a startup sound), press and hold the Shift key.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple logo and progress indicator.

I saw a WHITE Apple logo, not a gray, but there was no progress indicator; it only jumped into the login screen (where there WAS a progress indictor) with my profile login. Can anyone tell me what's going on? I'd put on some Marvin Gaye while you read this, but I can't load Music.

Try resetting your SMC and then test safe mode again:

FYI, it was my ignorance on the Music app - I work with multiple monitors, the secondary one - usually on - had been turned off and that was where I had Music displayed. Even though I had rebooted several times, I did not know that the app would continue to be displayed on the other monitor until it was moved back. When I turned on the secondary monitor, there was Music. As an Apple user since 2005, I am very embarrassed that I had never run into this...problem solved.

As for the Safe Mode, I had tried this before, tried it again, but I still do not see the computer starting in Safe Mode...🤔
