Does Back Tap work on iPhone 7 Plus with iOS 14?

The manual does not list any iPhone specific restrictions

Tap the back of iPhone to perform actions

You can double-tap or triple-tap the back of iPhone to perform certain actions—such as scroll up or down, take a screenshot, open Control Center, activate a shortcut in the Shortcuts app, or turn on an accessibility feature.

1. Go to Settings  > Accessibility > Touch > Back Tap.
2. Choose Double Tap or Triple Tap, then choose an action.

The iPhone 7 does not have the requisite hardware.

iphone 6s to 7plus is not glass so back tap feature is not available and iphone 8 is glass back to iphone 12 pro max back tap is available only double tap and triple tap but you can setup back tap in iOS 14 on iphone 6s to iphone 7plus you have to go to assistive touch and single tap and double tap and long press and 3d touch is available

You should have:

Settings > Accessibility > Touch > Back Tap.

If not, as you and askbarnabas concluded, you lack the hardware.

I found it! it is hidden in the Whats new page for iOS 14 note 17.

You answered the question. That device lacks the required hardware.

According to what I read somewhere else, it does require 8 or above.
