How does the App Library work for

iOS 14’s App Library gives a different way to access apps. How are you using it? Do you find it works for you? Myself, I’m finding it difficult. Not sure if I’ll use it, but maybe I’m just missing the trick to its value.

Any insights would be much approximated.

I found people with the same problem elsewhere in the Community! That person brought up an interesting point. He also has more than 2000 apps, like I do, and he’s having the same experience as I am. But he said a friend of his with only a few hundred apps confirmed the Search works properly. There were about 170 “I have this problem” clicks. The number of apps installed seems like a reasonable source for the problem. I also have seen something about apps not being indexed as something to look at. I’m Googling to see what that is and what I can do to Index my apps.

Thanks, Tom. When I do that, I’m not getting the apps. First, websites are returned, and Wikipedia, and other things. So I’ve been tapping the App Store option at the bottom of the list to go to there for the Open button. I also miss the old feature where the folder in which an app is stored is identified when you search.

I feel like there must be a setting I’ve overlooked, to have apps turn up in the Search, but I can’t find it. Here’s a screen capture of what I see when I search by swiping down.

And thanks for the tip about swiping through the dots! That’ll be quicker than going screen by screen if the swipe-down Search is functioning as intended.

NOTE: tapping in the item that shows “duolingo app” just opens another page of search results for the app 😕

Thanks.

I like it as an option. I HATE it as the apparent only way to search for apps. I have a zillion apps, many of which are organized in specific folders where I need them to be. But most are just jammed into general folders until I have time to deal with organization/deletion. I dislike swiping through several screens to finally get to search. It was a lot quicker using 1 swipe down and typing the app name.

I’m about to post my question about a more convenient way to search, but I’m checking for an answer in the forum first, in case this is my error.

i think the App Library is a great idea if people don’t want/need folders set up a specific way or don’t want the clutter of a bunch of Home Screens. But I can’t believe it’s practical for everyone.

That makes sense and is what I expected! Maybe my installation didn’t work properly? I’ll dig around in my settings some more. And if all else fails, I can reset my phone and iPad, assuming the iOS will install as new vs picking up from my iCloud backup. The weird thing is that my iPad and iPhone both are not returning apps on Search, so I thought that was the intended functionality. Thanks for confirming that mine appears to be a local issue! Have a great day 🙂

Unfortunately, erasing my phone (11 Pro Max) and restoring from iCloud didn’t fix things 🙁 Even though I have all the apps I’m searching for already on my phone from before, when I search and use the App Store item at the end of my search list, the apps have the little download cloud next to them. And when I download the app again, it’s been hit or miss as to whether it will show up on Search. More miss than hit. I have thousands of apps (yes, I need a support group to stop getting apps), so it’s not practical to erase again and do a manual install to see if that works, plus losing my data by starting fresh. I’m out of ideas and will either keep going to the App Store or using the dots to more quickly swipe to the App Library. Hopefully, whatever is causing my problem will be fixed in a future update. I’m going to search the forum some more to see if anyone else is having that experience, especially since I’m experiencing this on both of my devices. Thanks again for your attention yesterday 🙂

Well, I do have a zillion apps 😂 But for testing, among others, I tried DuoLingo because I’ve used it every day for the past 81 days. And I tried searching for Facebook, which I use almost every day. I do have an old iPad Pro 10.4 inch. I think I’ll install iOS 14 on it and see what happens. I can’t POSSIBLY go 3 for 3 with this problem! 😁

Thanks again.

Well I didn’t update my phone to the newest version yet so I don’t have this new App Library thing.

My sister does and honestly I’m jealous of her because in my opinion, this App Library makes the phone organized and some apps I don’t really use can be more organized and easier to find it 🤪

My opinion might change completely if I had it but I still really want it...

It’s never a bad idea to wait a few releases for the kinks to be worked out. I always update right away and regret it about 25% of the time. This Search glitch was really frustrating, and I wasted a lot of time trying to resolve something that was beyond my control. But I got helpful advice on the forum!

I don’t think I will use the App Library all the time because I have folders organized the way I want them. But I do switch over to it from time to time because I like how it looks.

There’s still a lot left to explore in this iOS.
