Activity GPS issues after watchOS 7 and iOS 14 updates

Thanks for your post. I have heard this solution a few times and last thing I haven’t tried. If I’m incredibly desperate that will be my next step, but as good a workaround as that maybe Apple can’t expect everyone with this issue to be restoring their iPhones (has its own set of risks). Definitely need to fix the issue with iOS 14.

The exactly same thing happened to me. I run with Fitness app, it records how long I ran, but it doesn’t show the path I did. I did what other suggested tonight, let’s see tomorrow if it helps. This is not the first time it happens after I upgrade Apple Watch OS.

I have also had the same issue. I had the S4 and X. tried to unpair it multiple times as well as talk to apple. I got the S6 this weekend and still no luck. I have walked every day (outdoors). There are a couple days where I would see my post workout summary on my watch but I would not get it on my phone. Now I'm having the issue of not seeing my route.

Exact same problem. Start location but no tracking beyond that.

contacted Apple support. A senior advisor said I needed to FACTORY RESET my iPhone 11 and that might fix it. Which was terrible advice.

hopefully .1 release has the fix and comes out soon.

at this point I am tracking workouts with Strava. It does track the route successfully.

Posting a second time, I did follow the option of unpairing my watch and erasing my iPhone 11 pro. After restoring my iPhone and re-pairing my S4 watch things turned for the worse. My watch is no longer counting steps. The stand hours graph now has several holes where I previously had hours counted. I did have three different workouts today (outdoor walk, indoor walk, and indoor run). None of them show on my Activity app on the watch or the Fitness app on my iPhone. My watch will no longer unlock when I unlock my iPhone nor will my watch unlock my MacBook. Getting weird by the moment...

Yes I think factory resetting the iPhone and restoring is risky and no guarantee of fixing this. I’m not prepared to do that without knowing the consequences. Best wait for Apple’s engineers to release patched iOS.

Im terrified to factory reset my phone or watch. I just got the S6 a couple days ago and thought it would fix this problem I was having with my S4.. I guess I will just wait til the release a new update.

This seems to be the solution - it worked for me! Just went and did a short outdoor walk and the gps tracked properly :)

All workouts prior to the iOS 14 update are back but as somebody else already pointed out - any gps-related workouts that I tracked with the glitch between when I first downloaded iOS 14 a week ago until today when I erased and restored everything are still wrecked...they don’t show any tracked gps routes, so I’ve lost about a week’s worth. Quite the nuclear option as it took a couple of hours to restore all my apps/photos/music but I’m glad things seem to be working. Curious to see if battery life goes back to normal on my iPhone again. Fingers crossed.

I’ve noticed the same problem and I have an iPhone 11ProMax and a first generation Apple Watch. I don’t move fast enough to test out the gps for an outdoor run to see if that records. But might try tomorrow.

I have exactly the same problem - no route information or GPS data even though I have tried everything suggested in this page and more, including toggling all privacy settings on the myriad of different apps and settings and a full system reset which still did not work. Has anyone so far managed to solve this?

Kind of losing hope. Is this a specific problem to Series 3 watches? Is this a product of the older versions no longer being supported?

For me it has also removed all of the previous GPS data from every workout I have ever logged on the system.

Not isolated to S3, it is happening on my S4 watch too.

I have so far un-paired & re-paired the watch from backup; then un-paired and set up as "new watch", no difference.

Don't have the patience nor time to also reset the phone, so I guess I'll be waiting for a fix from Apple.

As long as my exercise activities contribute to the circles (which they do, so far) I can wait for a fix.

Thanks for confirming iPhone restore didn’t help as was last thing I could have tried and last thing I want to do quite frankly. Comfortable in the decision to wait for Apple Engineers to fix this one.

iPhone XR + watch series 4 : both upgraded to iOS 14 and watch os 7 respectively.

No gps route is getting recorded in fitness app either when carrying the watch alone or with watch+ iPhone.

All route info from previous workouts is gone in the fitness app, dating more than a year back. Strangely, Strava app on the watch is able to record the route info fine!

Exactly the same problem here. There seems to be a mismatch between data (steps, etc) recorded on the watch and showing in the Health app & the Fitness app - it’s all over the place. It will soon start to cost me money since I get my watch paid for through health insurance, provided I record workouts - this isn’t happening at the minute.

Next "fun" thing to happen: did a short 4 km outdoor cycling activity. It shows up in the watch, but not a trace of it in Fitness on the phone. Activity Circles are synced, though. What is going on here?
