I upgraded my Apple Watch Series 3 to watchOS 7. When I turn on the sleep mode on my watch, display is suppose to dim, only date and time should be visible on watch screen and screen should be locked.
None of it is happening. I can see sleep mode icon on my watch but screen lits up, watch screen doesn’t change to display only date & time. Watch screen is not getting locked. It lits up when I move.
Any help will be appreciated!! Thank you!!

I resolved the problem by setting up the sleep mode directly in my phone.
when I do this the display in my Apple Watch s6 turns off as it is supposed to be.
I am having this same exact issue on Series 4 and Series 5 with iPhone 11 Pro Max. None of the settings enable dimming the display in sleep mode.
Any update on this issue? I’m struggling with this as well. I’ve got open ticket with apple support Bout restarts issue of my watch series 3, however I’ve already mentioned about this sleep issue as well. I’d like to point them this thread to refer.
I have seen couple of people on internet posting about the same issue. I haven’t come across any fix yet. Maybe we will have to wait for next watchOS update.

Update. I have open a ticket with apple support and they will get to me on Wednesday. Hopefully they have a solution for this issue by then.

I have also experienced this issue. Bought brand new apple watch series 5, sleep mode was not working since the beginning. Yet i have found no resolution. Waiting for official apple response.
My series 3 is on watch OS 7.1 and sleep mode doesn’t work right.
Weirdly on my series 3 it did work, I.e. screen dimming and “good morning” at wake up etc, straight after the update but for some reason a couple of days after that it stopped and just lights up the screen, no dimming and no sleep related info. I unpaired and re-paired without solving that issue (rather, I now just seem to have lost all complications...)
