iMovie 10.1.8 no longer shares

I have an older iMac (27-inch Late 2009), running mac OS Sierra 10.12.6. I unfortunately can't upgrade my OS any further. That is latest upgrade I can get with my processor (3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo.

I noticed Apple released an iMovie update in August of 2020. Since I can't update my OS, the new iMovie update is not supported on my iMac.

So my current version of iMovie is 10.1.8 and i can not update it any further due to outdated stuff (see above)

Unfortunately, since the new release of iMovie 10.1.15, my old iMovie 10.1.8 no longer shares. None of the share options work. I tried everything I could find to fix this. I restarted in safe mode, I reset the RAM and PRAM, I changed the library, I put iMovie in the trash and tried to download my old purchase in App Store (There was no old purchase), I reset my computer, I moved the Compressor file from the Plug-ins folder, and another other "fixes" I could find. Nothing solved the problem. So my guess is that Apple somehow disabled this function to force me to get iMovie 10.1.15. But I can't get iMovie 10.1.15 because my iMac is too old.

Why Apple? Why would you kill the share option in older versions of iMovie that can no longer be updated? WHY??

iMac, macOS 10.12

Ah, I see that you got the Compressor:Kit error. I think that what happened is that you updated iTunes, perhaps automatically, and that update planted a 64bit architecture onto your computer's library that is conflicting with your 32bit architecture. Upgrading to 64bit Catalina cures it, but I realize that you are not able to do that.

Take a look at these links. The first one describes how to remove the 64 bit architecture, and that cures the problem.

Here's another link, though older, that describes what others have tried

with the Compressor Kit Error:

There may be some proposed solutions in the above links that will work for

you.

All else failing, try calling Apple Support. The techs there are very savvy

and also have the capability of remotely accessing your computer. Click on the

Contact Support item in the upper right hand corner of this screen and navigate

to a place where you can provide your telephone number so that Apple Support

can call you back. I think that the file path is Contact Support/Mac

OS/Applications/iMovie.

Hi, Frikoff,

I have seen no reports of earlier versions of iMovie not sharing following the release of iMovie 10.1.15. So, I suspect that the failure of your iMovie 10.1.8 to share is caused by something else.

To redownload iMovie you must put your iMovie app in the trash (but do not empty the trash, sign in to the online app store, and click on your name at the bottom of the app store side bar. Your past purchases will be revealed, including iMovie. Redownload it from there. Now see if you can share out.

If no luck, try opening iMovie with your Guest account on your Mac. See if you can share out from there.

If still no luck, what steps are you doing to share and what happens when you do? Do you get any error message and, if so, what is the exact text? Where is your iMovie library located? Are you having any malfunctions with any of your other apps on your Mac?

Not sure whether you tried deleting preferences yet. If not, do so, as that often cures sharing issues. If you have done it, try again.

To delete preferences open iMovie while holding down the Option and Command keys and select to delete preferences in the box that appears. iMovie will open in a new library. Re-open your old library to get back to your projects. Now see if you can share out.
