Documentation states that you simultaneously press both the Top (Sleep/Wake) and Home Button.
There is a more reliable way. This is the sequence, broken down into its individual steps, that your perform in close succession:
1) Press-and-hold the Top Button
2) Whilst holding the Top Button, press-and-release the Home Button; you’ll hear the “camera shutter” sound and the screenshot thumbnail will appear on screen.
3) Release the Top Button.
Whilst the screenshot thumbnail is on-screen, tap the thumbnail to open the screenshot full-screen in Markup mode. If you don’t tap the thumbnail, it will auto-save to your Camera Roll.
