Why was the date removed from the iwatch?

Prior to installing iSO14, My iWatch face displayed the date (ie: Fri 18).

if you try to add it back to the top right space provided, you get the option ( Off ).

Installing the Apple calendar on my iPhone resolved the issue. Now the day and date are reflected on my Apple Watch

Install Apples default Calendar app.
