To double-check, which iPhone model are you using? Are you running iOS 14? If not, we recommend that as a first step:

Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
If that doesn't help, you might try a quick restart of both devices together:

How to restart your Apple Watch
If possible, you might also try this from a different Wi-Fi network.
