Notifications for incoming phone calls during WhatsApp conversation

I don't seem to get any indication of incoming phone calls while on a WhatsApp call: no ring, no call waiting tone, no unread notifications. The only way to find out that there was an incoming call at all is to open list of incoming calls, where it's displayed as a missed call.

I've checked both Phone and WhatsApp settings and couldn't find anything that can affect it. Call waiting is enabled in Phone settings, but it don't think it applies to this situation.

Is there any way to configure iPhone to ring or notify of an incoming call while a WhatsApp call is in progress? It came as a huge surprise that a third-party app is able to prevent incoming phone calls from ringing.

I use IOS 13.7.

Hello ptitov,

Thanks for the additional information. First, we'd like to have you update the software on your iPhone to the latest version (iOS 14) of software. Once you've done this, test to see if the issue remains. As with any update, we suggest that you create a backup first.

Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

If the issue remains, since this issue only happens with WhatsApp, you'd need to reach out to their support site that was previously provided.

Thanks for clarifying that for us. We'd like to ask a few more questions to help to isolate the issue.

Are you able to receive incoming calls when using other apps?
Which version of software are you currently using?
Have you had this issue in the past or is this something new that recently started?

We see that you're not getting notifications for incoming WhatsApp calls. We understand needing to be notified of these incoming calls, and we'd be happy to get you pointed in the right direction.

Let's start by having you check to see if there is a pending update in the App Store. If there isn't an update, remove the app, reinstall it, and test to see if the issue remains. If the issue remains, since this is a third-party app, you'll want to reach out to WhatsApp.

My problem is the opposite: I get notifications for WhatsApp calls, but I don't get notifications for regular mobile phone calls while being on a WhatsApp call. I believe this is an IOS issue as cellular calls are part of the core IOS functionality.

I use WhatsApp for internet calling almost exclusively so can't say for sure about other apps.

IOS version is 13.7, WhatsApp version 2.20.92

I've noticed the same issue with previous versions as well, however assumed previously it may have happened because the caller hung up immediately after dialling the number. Only realised its a bug recently after missing several important mobile calls from a caller I knew.
