WatchOS7 update problems

My series 3 completed an auto update overnight to Watch OS7. Today it has shut itself down at least 3 times, locked itself while on my wrist about 4 times, failed to load complications on multiple faces (weather, activity rings, date etc), disconnected from my phone at least twice. It has also dropped to less than 50% battery in about 8 hours, normally it is still in the 80’s. Is anyone else having these issues? This has been the buggiest upgrade I have seen.

Here's another update to my Series 3 OS7 issues & troubleshooting. I'm having the frequent reset issues like others on here, using an xR and a Series 3 Nike Edition on OS7.

  • Did a phone-free reset (set watch on charger, hold side button until power options appear, hold crown until "factory reset" options appear), and after resetting I set the watch up as new device. It loaded with OS7 and then had to update to 7.0.1 again. After doing this, I was able to go 24 hours+ without the apple logo appearing.
  • Changed the watch face from the default, which for some reason was the last Activity face, the one that's predominantly text-based, to a simpler Numerals face with no additional complications added to it. That has seemingly increased stability as well.

By clearing out anything hung up in the watch (phone-free reset with new device setup) and by removing any additional stressors on the hardware (no complications, simple display) I've increased device stability. The more I play with it and observe responses, I think the Series 3 is running into hardware limitations that Apple doesn't want to disclose/didn't properly account for. I say that based on the following observations:

  • These aren't full-on hard resets. The numeric passcode is never required. It's almost as if the watch is resetting a smaller component and throws the apple logo up while it does it. Maybe it's just clearing the cache repeatedly?
  • My xR is on iOS 14 and—simultaneous to the numerous watchOS7 issues—I noticed my phone was having bluetooth issues. It would show a connection to other devices, but it would not allow any interaction. So, it would show a connection to my earbuds but audio would play through the phone speaker. It showed a connection to my Echo Auto, but audio would come through the phone speaker only and the Echo Auto could not detect the phone. Had to unpair/disconnect everything and reconnect to restore. I wonder if the watch doesn't offload/dump some memory overflow/processing tasks to the phone when busy, and is having difficulty syncing to the phone via bluetooth, and that's causing the apple logos?
  • I have hit the side button several times to find the same group of apps (Messaging, Music, Activity) running in the background, even though I've never activated them. If it's pulling default apps to run in the background, that could be unnecessarily tasking the watch and causing memory issues.

I'm not so sure that what we're experiencing isn't due to syncing issues and/or hardware limitations & memory issues that Apple doesn't want to admit to.

Same issues since updating my S3 to latest OS7. Multiple reboots and lockouts.

Plus noticed when tracking fitness that heart rate stops working and leaves --|-- on the screen. Completely useless for tracking your heartrate whilst working out. Noticed that there is a new supplemental update, but even though the iPhone app lists the update as " auto install" it never installs (yes my watch is on charge and right next to my phone)

Very disappointed Apple.

I upgraded my watch to the iOS 7, and ever since then I am unable to read my watch face. It looks like it zooms in on the Home Screen and doesn’t go back to normal. It stays zoomed in. I have to do a hard reset on my watch just to turn it off and start it back up again. That’s the main issue I’ve seen with it. I also had to restart my watch brand new just to install the new update. ☹️ But I haven’t noticed the battery issue or my watch not signing into my MacBook. 🤷‍♀️

I FOUND THE FIX TO Auto Unlock NOT WORKING.

I had the same problem not being able to get Auto Unlock with Apple Watch to work. Almost 2 hrs. with Apple support with no solution. After several hours over 2-3 days of online searching I finally found the solution, at least for me.

Since the error message said my Mac couldn't communicate with my iPhone I simply connected my iPhone to my Mac with a USB cable. I think re-tried to enable Auto Unlock. Bingo! It worked instantly. I did this for both of my Macs which previously would not enable auto unlock.

Not only startup problems, but also many apps that stop working. By the way, with all the new updates (ios 14.0.1 and. 7.0.1) that Apple is releasing, there are problems that come up. We are not used to this, since Steve Jobs passed away things are going downhill. Too many updates. If this is Apple for the future, I'll say goodbye to Apple. Maybe a new sales technique?

Same problems, Watch Series 3 running Watch OS 7. Random reboots, screen will sometimes appear black when tilting wrist (though phone will wake up if I press Digital Crown), activity complications not loading properly, and requests for passcode even after I have already unlocked. Also screen sometimes completely unresponsive to touch. Very disappointing; essentially this “update” has rendered my watch completely unreliable and useless.

Guys, not sure others has the same phenomenon, but i do believe reboot is connected to leave my wifi zone. When leaving home, i am not checking my Series3, so probably reboot, but pull menu down to up and a walkie talkie is set on, i realize it has rebooted.

Maybe, Apple is beating me that i am leaving my home in this hard covid time, stay at home initiative.... :-)

The comments about this being related to WiFi seem to be correct. My Series 3 watch (with cellular) reboots regularly after leaving my house and home WiFi. It's also happened a few other times, likely when there was a gap in cell service. It has never rebooted while at home. The watch is always connected to my iPhone. The 7.0.1 update was not a fix.

Me too. Watch crashes at random, doesn’t communicate GPS data with a workout, Health App on my phone says there is no data from the paired watch but activity does arrive in health and other apps can access it. I had to un-pair and re-pair the watch to get it to update at all as apparently no room then masses of room. Renamed watch doesn’t show in Health app on phone. The whole thing is a disaster.

My series 3 has had issues since I updated to os7. It reboots every other hour or so, which is very annoying. It is also freezing when switching between apps and doesn't seem to hold a charge like it used to. I never had to charge the watch midday before and now I have to put it on the charger when I get back from the gym. I used to be able to go the full day without a charge, I wouldn't even think about charging it until I was getting ready for bed. Hopefully there's a fix for these issues soon!
