iOS 14 text notification issues

I am not getting sound notifications on text messages nor is the banner showing up on my locked screen. I have an iPhone 11 and just downloaded the latest iOS 14. Have reset my phone twice now. Please advise. Thank you.

Like many on here I had been having many of the same issues, missing all sorts of notifications, not just text since upgrading to ios 14 (first 14.1 then 14.2). Here is what fixed my issue... I went to settings->notifications->messages (for this example) and scrolled down to the options section. For the show previews section the "when unlocked (default)" was selected, meaning only notifications would only appear when the phone is unlocked when is hardly ever the case. I switched it always and the issue is now gone. I had to go into may other apps one by one and toggle this option back to always. Showing previews only when unlocked was 100% not my setting before this update.

What is interesting/****** me off is my wife just upgraded to ios14 and did not have issue. I went into her phone to settings->notifications->messages and for her show previews option was selected as "always (default)". Why on her phone she has options listed as "always (default)" and on my is "always" and "when unlocked (default)" I have no clue.

Thanks Apple!

I don't know if you've fixed your issue yet, but I had been having the same problem and have FINALLY found a way to fix it! Turns out it was a setting on my Apple Watch 6, which was new to me also. In the Watch app select Passcode, then scroll all the way to the bottom and turn OFF Wrist Detection. Reading the description there I wasn't sure I wanted to, but I did, and am now getting notification on both the watch, and on the lock screen. Hallelujah!

I’m piggybacking off of someone else’s response to this post. I also have the 11 Pro Max and ever since iOS 14.0.0 I have had issues with notification tones not playing when text messages are received. There have been a few other things that have popped up here and there but they are so infrequent that I can’t recall what they are. The text message notification is by far the most prevalent issue I’m seeing right now.

I did the 14.2.1 update and still did not fix the notifications bug where randomly there is no alert, sound, vibration or banner even though a new text is sitting in my chat window but I'd never know I received a new text unless I looked in the text window. I can't do this for all text windows.

This issue started with IOS 14 on my IPhone-X. I upgraded to the iPhone-12 Pro Max and the bug still remains. Updated to IOS 14.2.1 and text bug remains.

Bug report / feedback has been submitted.

Same. It shows that I opened the text message when in fact I never saw it. And it’s random. Not consistent at all. Because I’ll reply to that person after I see they replied to me hours ago! And I’ll start getting notifications. No notication no badge alert nothing but shows I opened it. Hope it gets fixed I keep ignoring people and it ain’t my fault!!

I have the same combination with Apple Watch and iPhone and this also worked for me. Thank you for sharing your solution!

thank you everyone for the suggestions. Unfortunately, 14.2.1 did not fix the issue for me. I even had Apple support on the line and screen sharing with me while we downloaded it. they had me fully factory reset from my MacBook (which is also on the latest iOS). That did nothing. I don’t have any Apple Watch. They also had me unpair all my Bluetooth devices. Didn’t work. They are doing an RTA but I really don’t know what is going to come of it.

they also said that (bc I bought my phone through Verizon) they couldn’t give me a new one but they could have me send my phone into them for repair, they would send me a temporary phone, and place a hold on my bank account for $1400 during the repair LOLLLL. I laughed so hard. Told them I work in tech and know the difference between a hardware and a software issue. Not getting a new device. this one is 1 week old. FIX THE SOFTWARE PLEASE!

for those that updated to 14.2.1 or do not have a 12 model, this is for you lol

I have an X on 14.2 and i’ve gotten no message notifications at all, both text and imessage. No vibrate, no banners, no badges, nothing. i tried a million different suggestions, including a hard reset and restore of my device. the only thing that actually has been working perfectly is after i went into Settings > Notifications > Messages > change Banner Style to persistent. everything is working for me now message-wise, including vibrations and badges. no idea why lol but I will take it. Hope this can help for anybody still having the issue!

While betas are meant to be pre-releases of upcoming software and fixes, often times they themselves have bugs and aren't complete products that will be shipped to the public. Additionally per the terms of the forum as well as the beta itself, it is not to be discussed publicly. One should never use the beta program as a way to "solve and issue early". Beta is beta for a reason, its got bugs and may contain bug fixes, but there's no telling exactly what could be in the next update until its publicly released.

Absolutely having the same issue. This is a very painful bug. I’m missing so many important work and personal text message notifications.

Apple chat support said engineers are aware. I have a call with Apple support tomorrow night. This needs to be addressed immediately. I have also submitted feedback on this issue. I know this is Thanksgiving week but Apple needs to fix this.

Like all of you, I have tried everything and nothing has worked. A reboot seems to fix for a short time but then it returns. If I’m using the phone I get notifications, seems to happen when phone is locked/screen off. Not 100% sure on that though. Also not getting the notifications on the AW either.

New iPhone 12 Pro Max. Set it up as a new phone (my yearly purge), and lo and behold, the non-notification iMessage started immediately. I had just wiped my 11 Pro Max to return to AT&T as part of my Next plan. I did not experience the same problems on the 11 Pro Max, for the week or so that I had been using both phones (11 Pro Max was running iOS 14.2 too).

I could not figure why I wasn't receiving notifications all day, especially on a weekend. I tinkered around with the usual suggestions, and was beginning to get really frustrated, after all I had just spent two days going through every app from my old phone (I use iMazing software for my physical backups).

Anyway, after growing increasing ****** off (c'mon these are $1400 phones), I found this thread and decide instead of wasting anymore time, and taking into consideration that I haven't used iTunes in years, I'd go the iTunes "iPhone Restore" + "Restore Backup" route.

And it worked. And it actually didn't take all that long.
