Some sites won't load - Safari 14.0 - after upgrade to Mojave

I'm on a 2017 iMac with SSD that until a couple of days ago was running high sierra. I just updated to Mojave and now Safari won't load certain sites, such as Ebay and CNN. I get what appears to be a looping behavior and then an error saying unable to load page.

This happens within seconds. I've reset VRAM, SMC, PRAM, Safe Mode, set up new administrator account, ran a malwarebytes scan. Nothing changes this behavior. I do run a VPN, but it's the same if it's connected or not. All Safari extensions are disabled (StoptheMadness).

The machine is stock. The only other error, which might be related, is the missing Java JDK, but when I try to get to the site to download it, I get privacy errors. I'm unable to over-ride those.

Any suggestions? Is the JDK the source of the issue? Where can I get the JRE v6 for legacy Java if that's required for Safari, where can I get it?

The problem was an "incomplete" install of Safari with the upgrade, which included Safari 14.0. I finally called Support and they had me do a system re-install from recovery, which fixed the issue.

You'd likely have to contact Oracle for their take on this topic.

..Already covered and stated a few years, now. After Safari 12..

• Java and Apple Safari Browser

https://www.java.com/en/download/faq/safari.xml

• Using Java SE on macOS Catalina

https://www.oracle.com/java/technologies/javase/jdk-jre-macos-catalina.html

For the most part, in order to install depreciated or at-risk software

you'd have to disable/work-around this security issue. "New security."

There's more. See oracle java site, or use duckduckgo search.

Good luck & happy trails!🌞

Yes, that was observed by me as well; that I'd no

practical reason to perform an initial upgrade was

purposeful in my part. ~ Other reversion tactics also

were offered to try/get Safari 13.1.2 again. Then hope

for a later version Safari or patch, after Big Sur was

released to general public.

Like the iOS14 iPhone upgrade from 13.7, sometimes

a bridge too far; should other device/Mac need older

and these do not match the hardware in-situ.

Thank you for good news with upgrade info!🐌|🐢
