How’s your iPhone storage doing (Settings -> General -> iPhone Storage)?

If your Free storage drops too low, you’ll have various misbehaviors.

If your Free storage space in more than a few gigabytes, that shouldn’t be a problem.

Also, check on whether Background App Refresh it turned on for your Apps.

(I seem to recall a setting for allowing App multitasking [or whatever it was called], but I don’t see that option on my iPad. [Probably because iPadOS is always set for such multitasking.])
