Hi,
I tried to password protect a folder using Disk Utility in macOS Mojave, but then I encountered an error like this:
The folder in question only contains 7 highly-sensitive photos, it's only a test to see how easy and fast macOS do it, but the result is dissappointing.
I chose 128-bit encryption, and use a simple pass-phrase (it was only a test).
Did I do it wrong?

Hey there! I’m honestly not sure if encrypting folders via disk image like this are still supported like they were.
I know you can adjust the permissions of any file or folder being an admin of course:
And/or lock PDF’s using Preview or even other file types with other apps, such as Notes. (And then the general “Lock” option for any file of course.

While you can try to make one from the folder, it will be only as large as the current folder (plus a little more).
If you need an image that can expand in size, create a new disk image as desired, then move the files into the mounted disk image.
As BDAqua suggests, there is something that is using whatever you are trying to copy. It should be just making a copy, so I don't know what would be using the resources.
Seems you're including something that is in use.
