Sidecar sees my iPad as the primary screen

When I connect to my iPad with SideCar, all of the windows on my Mac automatically shift to the iPad and my Mac becomes my secondary monitor.

How can I change this behavior so the Mac remains the primary screen when I use SideCar? I don't see any options under Sidecar or display settings to identify the primary monitor.

I had the same problem and used the following hint to correct.

Change your primary monitor settings by opening System Preferences > Displays > Arrangement. Then click and drag the small white menu bar to your preferred display. OS X will remember this setting for your display configuration.
