iOS 14 and CarPlay

Ever since I updated my iPhone 8 to iOS 14 music and podcasts played via CarPlay has suffered from static noise. Before the update I used CarPlay every day but I have stopped doing so on account of the terrible sound issue. Up until the update everything worked fine. The only thing that has changed is the software on the phone. I therefore assumed that it was an Apple-related issue. Sadly, Apple couldn't help me and referred me to the dealer as it, according to Apple, was a car issue. I then contacted the dealer who found themselves unable to help me as they deemed it an Apple-related issue (same logic as mine). I drive a 2019 Skoda Fabia. Anyone else who after updating to iOS 14 have experienced similar problems or know how to fix this extremely annoying problem?

If got the exact same problem. After some searching through different communities, I found a working solution for the Skoda Fabia 2019. I had to bring the car to a Skoda service partner to update the software of the head unit. The old version is 8742 and there is a new version 8755. According to my service partner this version is available since end of October 2020. It should fix various bugs related to android auto and apple car play. After the update everything works perfect. Hey KLO82,

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities! We understand you're running into an issue with CarPlay. We're happy to provide some information to help.

Checking with the car manufacturer to ensure there are no pending firmware updates was a great step. We also recommending checking out what else to do to resolve CarPlay issues here: If you need help with CarPlay

Also, is there any chance you can test out if the same issue persists when using CarPlay with a different vehicle?

Thanks again, and have a great day!

As follow-up to my earlier post:

Today I deleted the Apple Maps app, which was changed significantly for 14.1.

CarPlay now works as expected, with good audio (Music, Podcasts, TuneIn Radio), and no problem with app disconnects or reset.

I used Google Maps for navigation within the CarPlay environment.

This experiment proved successful for both my iPhone XS and iPhone SE devices.

iPhone: Xr

OS: 14.1

Vehicle: Honda Civic 2019 *no customization*

Problem: Unable to connect iPhone via Apple Car Play. My system requires me to connect via USB.

I have tried the following:

  • updating settings to allow “connect while locked”
  • removing privacy setting entirely
  • forgetting vehicle on iPhone and forgetting iPhone on vehicle system.
  • Disconnecting all Bluetooth and reconnect

nothing has fixed it. Also I called Apple support and they just past the problem onto the vehicle manufacturer and said it is on their side.

seeing how so many other people are experiencing the same issue after update to 14.1 i don’t think that’s true

I'm having this same issue on my RR Velar 2018. The maps app has a horrible lag and it crashes anytime I try and do anything. It worked fine before I upgraded to ios14! I've been in contact with Apple Support and they are trying to identify the issue but I'm not hopefully about anything's especially after reading this! All my infotainment software is current so I don't think it's this.

set AssistiveTouch to off if you using it. Apparently ios 14.2 software bug caused the issue of mazda infotainment center control. If you wish to continue to use AssistiveTouch with peace of mind, then you can use “Shortcuts” native apps to create personal automation to activate & deactivate when connected to carplay. Mine is ip6S+ & mazda 3.

Remember deactivate “ask before running”, you not need to have toggle each time connect & disconnect.

I worked with the help desk to formally log and troubleshoot the issues and the person pretty much came back and said the techs don’t know what’s happening and sorry about it. They are working to fix it and hopefully will come out in a future release at some point.

I know you can solve for every situations but I would expect some updates and things to have been deployed by now. Apple needs to do better with its updates and making sure regression testing is robust to identify these issues. #DOBETTER
