Not connected to internet error message when updating watch

I’m trying to pair my Apple Watch with my iPhone and it’s saying I need to update my watch. Would be no issue however every time I try to do this I receive an error message saying that my phone is unable to check for an update because I’m not connected to the internet, when I clearly am? I’ve tried hard resets, resetting network connections, turning Bluetooth off (basically every other solution I could find!).

My phone is updated to ios14. Please help!

Hi Leanne_68,

Unfortunately I have tried all of these solutions and I am still receiving the same error message on my phone to say that it is not connected to the internet so unable to complete the necessary watch update!

Is there anything else I could try?

Thanks, Megan :)

Hello, meegslouisee!

Thanks for reaching out to the Apple Support Communities! It sounds like you’re having an issue pairing your Watch with your iPhone so it can be updated. You've tried excellent steps so far resetting the network and turning off Bluetooth, and the good news is we have some additional steps you can try to resolve this issue. Just be sure to try pairing after each step:

  1. Be sure you have the latest software version available for your iPhone installed by following the steps in this article to Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.
  2. Be sure your date and time are set correctly on your iPhone by following the steps in this article If you can’t change the time or time zone on your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch.
  3. Please make sure that your iPhone is not connected to a VPN network, as this can interfere with the ability to pair your Apple Watch.
  4. Follow the steps in this article for How to delete apps on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch and delete and reinstall the Watch app.
  5. Temporarily disconnect any Bluetooth accessories connected to your iPhone.
  6. Try setting your Watch up as new instead of from a backup by following the steps in this article to Set up your Apple Watch.

Let us know the results and take care!
