Picture in Picture for Facetime not working

It sounds like your iPhone works normally when making a FaceTime call but when you swipe up to go to your home screen while on a FaceTime your video gets paused but the person you're on a call with can still see your video.

If we have misunderstood you or haven't captured the issue completely please feel free to correct us.

If we have understood you correctly, we recommend you try the following:

1. Go to Settings > General > Picture iPicture > toggle "Start PiP Automatically" off, restart the device and toggle it back on.
2. If the recommendation above didn't resolve the issue, we recommend you try the guidance in: Return iPhone settings to their defaults. Please note: "If you want to save your settings, back up iPhone before returning them to their defaults. For example, if you’re trying to solve a problem but returning settings to their defaults doesn’t help, you might want to restore your previous settings from a backup."
3. We also always recommend keeping your devices updated as this ensures optimal performance capabilities and iOS 14.0.1 was just released: Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.

Toggling the setting worked for me, but not immediately. After following steps in #1, PiP still had a problem. After a force-restart of my iPad Pro, FaceTime PiP was working as it should. Thanks!

Because you either (1) don't have Automatic PiP enabled in Settings, or (2) there is a bug in iOS/iPadOS.

This may be cleared up by iOS 14.2. (I don't have this problem on 14.2 beta, only iPadOS 14.1) We'll see in a week or so.

My iPhone 11 pro max is doing the exact same thing! I have tried the above recommendations and I'm still having the same issue!

Same. I tried the suggestions yet I still have the same problem. The Picture in Picture works for everything else but FaceTime. Please help

My iphone 8 did Picture in Picture fine at the beginning of ios 14 but now it doesn’t. It still works for Netflix and disney + but not for FaceTime.

When I switch to another app while using FT the other person says I show as “paused”. Why?

Same! I had an iPhone 6s and it worked fine, but then I got an iPhone 12 and it doesn’t work, basically doing the same thing it did before i installed iOS 14. It doesn’t work with YouTube without a special code, but that was always the case. Please help!

exact same thing that’s happening to me and mines a 7+. My friend has an 8 and it’s doing that too.

I tried every recommendation and it still does not work. It’s frustrating to not be able to use updates that are supposed to be available to me.

Update: I restarted my phone (held down on the power button) and it worked after turning it off and on. Try this!
