decryption took a very long time

I accidentally turned off fire vault. why decryption takes so long...5 hrs and still going onnn

Changing the setting for disk encrytion takes under a minute. But performing the transformation requires that your Mac read every file on your drive, and write them back in the other state.


Your Mac continues to be available for use while the transformation is in progress. Transformation is performed at low priority in the background, and often takes a full day or more of AWAKE time -- if your Mac goes to sleep, the transformation pauses, and will resume later.


Also, you can not change the state of encryption again, or cancel the transformation, until it completes.


This sounds like it is operating as designed.
