Returning a lost iPad

Hello :) Some months ago, an iPad that looks pretty new (no home button) was found in a drawer in a rental property that my mom owns. There is no telling who the iPad belongs to, and we were never contacted in regards to the lost item. Is there any way I could determine the previous user or Apple ID so that I could return the iPad? It seems incredibly wasteful to deem such a device a "useless brick," as I have seen such complaints describe such an item on threads alike. Thank you to anyone who can help bring this thing back to use!

The answer is still “no.” Recycle it.

Recycling through Apple will see the parts and materials re-used appropriately.
