New iPad passcode locked
My daughter had a new iPad and before I got around to setting it up she managed to put in a passcode which she can’t remember! It’s never been hooked up to a computer so no idea how to get around this

If your iPad is disabled, or you have forgotten your iPad passcode, you’ll need to follow this process:
If you’ve forgotten the passcode on your iPad, or your iPad is disabled – Apple Support
You’ll need access to either a PC (with iTunes installed) or a Mac (with iTunes or Finder - as appropriate for the installed version of MacOS).
You’ll also need your AppleID and associated password. If these have also been forgotten, they can be recovered here:
To recover your credentials, you’ll need access to one of the following:
Unless you AppleID account has not been fully/correctly configured, or has been seriously neglected, recovery of the AppleID and password should not be difficult.

When you recover access to your credentials, you would be well advised to log-in to your AppleID account from a web browser - and verify/update any email addresses and trusted telephone numbers:
If she got as far as setting up a passcode, then she got as far as entering an Apple ID. The passcode set up step comes after the Apple ID step. The firrst thing you do is log in to an apple ID, then you set up a passcode for the device.
Make sure the iPad is not actually asking you to set up a passcode, rather than expecting one to unlock itself.
If it is asking for a passcode to unlock, you will need to connect it to a computer to restore it to factory condition, and start the setup over. If she did in fact log in to an Apple ID she will need to remember what it was.
Again follow the steps here: If you forgot the passcode on your iPad, or your iPad is disabled - Apple Support
You'll need to connect it to a computer regardless.

The thing is there is no Apple ID or password associated with the iPad as it’s brand new and I was just about to set it up. Somehow she managed to set a passcode before I even got that far. It literally came out of the box!
Unless the iPad is pre-owned (not “new”) then the Passcode must have been created during the initial setup. If already forgotten, the previously documented procedure must be followed to recover access to (i.e., reset) the iPad.
