Incomplete albums and dissociated files

Copied a CD into my iTunes library and the first 2 tracks ended up as 'Track 1' and 'Track 2' all on their own, not associated with the album. This is not the first time something like this has happened. I have found entire albums saved as individual tracks with no associated info. Simply 'Unknown'. Some are from concerts and others are indie releases. Is there a way to simply move files associated with an album into a single album?

Hi PreferPeaches,

We appreciate the reply.

For verification, the two songs in question were part of an EP and the additional tracks were bought separately as part of a full album, correct? If so, this sounds like it may be normal. However, you might double-check; do they show separate album names? Have you tried to right-click one and select Get Info to see if you're able to edit?

Let us know!

Kind regards.

Not so much the lack of track info. It's that the tracks are not part of a complete album. They are stored as individual tracks and titled 'Track 1' and 'Track 2'. I would like to be able to move these files back into the folder (or album) with which they should be associated. This has also happened with an album purchased from iTunes. I bought the early release as an EP and when the full album became available I bought the remaining tracks. I had expected that this would have resulted in a complete album. I have all the tracks but they are in 2 separate folders under the artists name. It would be nice to have these together so I can listen to the entire album in proper order, as the artist intended. Sure, I could make a playlist, but I shouldn't have to.

Hi PreferPeaches,

Thanks for posting. As we understand it, you're finding a few imported tracks do not seem to have any album or artist information. Is that right?

When you imported the CD, were you using the "Get Track Names" function?

To answer your question, you should be able to change the metadata for those two tracks by right-clicking the song and selecting Get Info. From there, you should be able to add or edit any artist and album information there. You might also want to look to see if the "Album is a compilation of songs by various artists" box is enabled.

Before making any changes to your iTunes library, we recommend making sure you have a backup of your content: Back up and restore your iTunes library on your PC

We hope that helps.

Take care.

In this specific case it is a single album with the same name. I believe the specific option within iTunes is 'Complete Album' when the it was purchased. It did complete the album by downloading the tracks not listed on the EP as a separate album, with the same name. Thus, I have 2 identically named albums, one with only the EP tracks and the second with only the tracks not available on the EP.

Additional to this issue, is the original question of forcing iTunes to place all tracks associated with a single CD into a single folder. Without having to create a playlist. At this point it seems easier to me to pirate all music as FLAC files and organize my folders as I want. Kinda missing my old Walkman right now.
