Since stainless steel Apple Watch is around 700$+ with the band and the life is around 4-5 years. I believe if you buy luxury watch it will last atleast 10-20years.
Only you can decide if it's worth it to you. For me, it is. I'd never spend that on a regular non-smart watch because it's just not important to me. The last watch I had before the Apple Watch was, either a Casio or a Timex. When I cracked the crystal, I stopped wearing a watch for about 15 years. I'm on my third stainless steel Apple Watch. I have the sport band so I don't spend a lot of extra money there. And, I got about $150 off the watch when I traded in my previous one.
I think it's also important to keep in mind that it's not an investment. It is something that is almost guaranteed to decrease in value, just like a cell phone or a computer.
