When you transfer Applications from a backup to a new Mac, do they get re-downloaded from internet or you get a copy that is stored on the backup?

They are transferred from the backup (for non-Apple apps; the macOS apps e.g. Mail, Safari, etc. are not replaced).
It will be placed in a separate folder and you’ll be notified of the incompatibility.
Thank you for the reply. What if there is an application in the current system that is not going to be compatible with the newer macOS?
