Apple Music Continue Where Left Off

I'm experiencing an issue with the music playback after closing the Music app on my iPhone XR. When I close the app after shuffling a playlist and listening to it for a bit, I cannot reopen the app and it resume where I left off in the playlist. The app shows 'Not Playing' in place of whatever song I was on in the playlist/last playing.

Is this a bug or setting issue with my account, or is this not a feature of Apple Music?
