Reach out to Apple Support via the link I provided and report back so we can learn what the issue was.
The screenshot above doesn't show the actual Calendar app. That just shows the Calendar app settings.

it doesn’t appear anywhere on my phone. I can only see it from a computer. it says I’ve “joined” the calendar it yet doesn’t add it to the calendars on my phone.
In the app I see nothing.

Yes i do and my husband gets a notice that I’ve joined but yet it won’t show up. It’s the strangest thing. I can join calendars from other apps/sites but not a shared calendar invite Apple to Apple

On the iPhone, if you go to Calendar app > Calendars (bottom of screen) > do you see the Shared Calendar on the list?
When you received the Shared Calendar invite, do you remember tapping Inbox > Join Calendar?
