Sounds not playing in Sound Effect panel and plugins won't load

Hi everyone - When I click on the Sound Effects panel, all the sounds effects appear, but if I click on the Play button, nothing happens. If I ctr-click a sound, the Reveal in Finder option is greyed out. If I drag the sound from the panel into the timeline, it works (but you can imagine how long it takes when I'm looking for the perfect sound...). I've posted a screen capture below.

I also have a second problem that looks like it could be related. My Pixel Film Studios effects have stopped working. They show up in the Generators list, and when I click on one, I see the all the preview icons. However, as soon as I pick one, I get a screen that shows a warning icon. And what's weird is that all the settings are showing up (see second screen capture), but all I get is a screen showing a warning icon and a large number 2.

It could be that these problems are not related, but they started exactly at the same time.

Also, I've already tried every solution I could find online: restart my computer, reset NVRAM, switch account, reset FCPX preferences, remove and reinstall FCPX, etc. I've also removed, reinstalled and upgraded my plugins.

Anyone ever encountered one of these issues (and hopefully have a solution)?

I'm running Catalina 10.15.6 and FCPX 10.4.9.

Thanks.

Open your Music application. Select any track and press the spacebar. Does it work? Go back to FCP, select an effect, then select the waveform at the top and press the spacebar. Does it work? Try selecting other clips, without clicking on the waveform, and use the spacebar.

Thanks, I tried that and it didn't work.

As for the plugins problem, I get that the issue could be with Pixel Film Studios and I'm contacting them about it. Normally, I wouldn't have mentioned it here before contacting the company, but both issues look like they could be related.

However, with this sound effects issue, everything isl within the Apple environment.

Not sure what they say about it, but you should only have the .localized in these folders: Motion Templates, Effects, Transitions, Titles, Generators.

You should NOT add this extension to the particular template folders.

Anyway, if the plugins were working before, then the .localized extension was already there.

Several plugins needed updating to work with 10.4.9.

I don't know about this developer in particular. For reasons that can easily be looked up online, I prefer not to use anything from them.

Hi Terry - when I saw your response, I was sure it was going to work. I had a feeling it had to do with permissions, but I had no idea where to look. I went to Full Disk Access and FCPX wasn't checked. I checked it, rebooted my computer for good measure... and it didn't work. Now if this is not the problem... don't know what it could possibly be.

OK... so it's getting weird. I decided to move the Final Cut Pro Sound Effect folder out of the Library>Audio folder and placed it on top of my user folder. Then, I started FCPX again and all the sound effects are still showing and, when I move one to the timeline, it still works. I used Spotlight to search for Final Cut Pro Sound Effects and there is only one folder by that name and it's where I moved it. What the heck is going on?

It worked! I selected one, went to the waveform and pressed the spacebar and it worked. Then tried another one, pressed the spacebar and it worked AND I even tried with the play button and it also worked. YES! Don't know what you did there, but thank you so much.

Now if I can get those plugins working...
