I currently edit off of a Glyph SSD (950/transfer rate) but it is full (https://www.glyphtech.com/product/atom-raid-external-solid-state-drive)! I am traveling a need a solution I can pickup today. What SSD's do you use to edit with?
I should also mention I have a 2016 MacBook with those new thunderbolt ports. From a Amazon’s re: the crucial x8:
It's a USB-C connector, which is physically interchangeable with Thunderbolt 3. You won't get Thunderbolt 3 speed though.
True, these drives are not Thunderbolt.
As I said before, I get 950MBps, approximately, which is about the most we could expect with USB-C (not Thunderbolt 3).
That is still very fast, faster than any RAID composed of rotating hard drives, and plenty fast enough for video editing.
At some point, the human becomes the bottleneck. With current day MBP and fast drives and GPU, we are the bottleneck 😁
No, I meant buy it online. I don’t think I’ve ever bought a drive any other way.
The ones I use are from Crucial (Crucial X8). They are not expensive and get about that same transfer rate you have, when used on my 16" MBP. So far, they have served me well.
Another vote for Crucial SSDs. Great company and products. I have quite a few of their SSDs, and all my RAM upgrades on my different Macs have used Crucial RAM over the years.

Yes. They’re good drives recommended by many pro users. That’s if you like Samsung drives. Everyone has there own favorite manufacturer. Samsung is not one of mine.
I really would like one of these crucial X8’s but I can’t find any in Destin or Panama City Florida… Any other recommendations?

Do you mean use it to edit off of? If so yes my projects etc. library‘s are all on external hard drive‘s right now I use a glyph which is super super fast.
Gotcha! Yeah I probably just gonna have to do that… I found a T5 locally but it’s not as fast as that crucial so I may just wait…
Crucial and SanDisk are what I use for SSDs. Done with spinning drives, though I still have quite a few with stuff on them that I have to use.
