I upgraded to Catalina and now all my photos are gone. The program PHOTOS is empty. What happened?

I upgraded my MacBookAir to Catalina. After some time I went to my photos and it is empty and asking me to set up as if new. Where are my pictures? In changing to Catalina was there something I was to do?

I have a back up somewhere of pictures but now will need to load one by one?

Lost Photos after Catalina Update, iphotos library gone. HELP. I had my over 250 GB worth of photos on my old mac book hard drive and external storage hard drive (time machine). Prior to installing Catalina, I was able to plug in my hard drives and access my photos on my mac book. After the update, I can't find any of the photos. I tried to look up the master files but no luck. The storage on both hard drives were previously almost full ~ 500 GB. Now when I check the usage, it shows 250 GB available. Did all my photos get deleted? Or is my macbook unable to read the files due to the update? I even tried to boot my computer with my old hard drive connected but I am still unable to access the files and when I check the storage usage, it says 250 GB available.

I can not find my photos after upgrading to Catalina. help help please I upgraded my macbook pro, and now cannot open the iPhoto app. I am in shock. I have stored there a lot o pictures that means a lot for me..like some from my daughter when she was a baby, this upgrading really makes me mad .. please help me

How recent is that somewhere back up? That sounds like a cut and paste vs a copy and paste problem.

Locate your iPhoto library in the Pictures folder and double click on it. It will open in Photos and be migrated to a new Photos library.
