iPhone 7 Mic Problem iOS 14

I recently updated my iPhone 7 to IOS 14. Now the microphone doesn't work so I can't make phone calls (they can't hear me and I can't hear them, send audio messages or talk to Siri. Anyone else encounter this issue. Is there a way to fix this. Please help!!!!

For iPhone 7's that have a loose Audio IC not even iOS 25.x is going to fix it. If your speaker is grayed out and all you can do is use BT, as you have described, it is a hardware problem. It is not caused by any update, although doing one can reveal it and your really have 3 options: (a) Pay Apple for an out-of-warranty replacement and get a service replacement unit. I would not go that route at this point when you can buy a new iPhone SE 2020 for less than $100 more, (b) buy some other phone or (c) find a 3rd party repair shop that can do microlevel soldering and have them re-ball the four connection points that are usually at issue, and do ask and make sure they did all four. Prices have been dropping for this option. Keep in mind if you go this route Apple may refuse future service on your iPhone, but that really should not be an issue.

I have same issues with the IPhone 7 Plus.

Upgraded to IOS 14 and the mic and the camera stopped working. Then, updated to IOS 14.0.1 it helped with the camera but not the microphone.

Ok, work can wait but what if I will have a life-threatening emergency and need to call 911?

Apple, what is going on?!

I'm really disappointed.

We have the same problem with iPhone 7. Called Apple support, they asked several questions, asked to reset network settings but nothing has happened. He suggested me to bring the phone to the official Apple service. I will try tomorrow but the problem is that the screen got broken and I am afraid they will refuse even to consider its repair. I asked if there are several users with the same problem but the answer was that he’s not allowed to share such information :-)

I have this same problem: I cannot do the following thing:

  • hear/talk on calls; the speaker icon is just grayed out.
  • connect to facetime unless on my Bluetooth headphones
  • No audio collected on video on forward/face viewing camera
  • Use siri
  • Take voice memo
  • Dictate using powermic mobile for work
  • Listen to amazon music?
  • Headphones that plug into the charging spot will not play any audio or make calls/use microphone.

What does work:

  • You-tube/Netflix with sound from phone
  • Old videos with sound from phone

Attempts to fix without success

  • Restarted phone x 5
  • Took sim out and put back in
  • Hard reboot
  • Factory reset

Only success to make a call was: have device forget my Bluetooth headphones, repair the device and made a call. Was able to transition to facetime while still using the Bluetooth for audio, but no audio when disconnected the Bluetooth speaker.

Therefore, my iPhone is currently a slightly functional computer that can send texts. I hope they fix this VERY soon. I just spent 60 min on the phone with apple help, and all the diagnostics returned without obvious error. Good luck everyone.

Everyone on here has a phone that worked before the update now doesn’t

so the only way your logic holds up is if iOS 14 uses different pins on the audio IC than iOS 13 does

would this also prevent it working with wired headphones

I still think it’s more likely software and because apple won’t do the repair if an independent does it and it doesn’t work then what

Just google for loop disease before blaming, it's not that hard... Same thing happened when iOS 12 and iOS 13 came out. It's a design flaw in 7/7+ models and Audio IC connectors soldering gets damaged in time (gets bent?) depending on the usage and each particular unit, same as with "No service" Baseband IC issue for 7. iOS updates are a trigger as there's a hardware check during the update (google for details, don't know more than this).

This is just a reply to the original question. If you have some other device model reasons can be different. Best way to check for a software issue is to make a backup, factory reset and set up as new. If the issue is still there -- hardware, if not -- software.
