Disabling ambient noise reduction in macOS Catalina

i recently updated to macOS Catalina on my MacBook Air 2015 and realized that the quality of the internal microphone had drastically reduced. After doing my research, i found that it had something to do with ambient noise reduction being automatically enabled. I tried to disable it but can't seem find it anywhere. I'm a musician who solely depends on the internal mic to make songs, covers etc., so if someone has a fix for this, i'd really like to know cause it's really stressing me out. Thanks in advance.

I just stumbled onto a workaround: turn on voice control for the mic you're using in Accessibility settings. That will pop up a little window with a microphone - click "sleep" to put it to sleep. You may also want to disable all the commands if you don't actually want to use voice control. Automatic noise reduction appears to be disabled as long as voice control is on.

I was told that i'd receive a call from apple support but i never did. Tried calling you guys but it keeps saying that the number doesn't exist. All i want is for you guys to enable the option to disable ambient noise reduction on macOS Catalina. I know i'm speaking for a thousand other people who also want to disable ambient noise reduction so that they can go back to using their internal microphones like how they used to. Please fix this asap

Hi amanmohamed_,

We're glad you've come to Apple Support Communities for help with your audio input quality and the ambient noise reduction feature. We're happy to point you in the right direction.

Here's a guide with some helpful information:

Change the sound input settings on Mac

It appears the option for ambient noise reduction isn't available if your Mac has 4-channel built-in microphone format selected in the Audio MIDI Setup application.

If you head into Audio MIDI Setup, then choose input, does it show that 4-channel audio is selected?

If so, what happens if you switch to a comparable 2-channel format?

We're here for you if you've got any questions.

Have a great day!
