Force Quit Finder

I can't shut down my mac because finder is doing something in the background and the fan is overheating. How do I shut down?

You can force quit Finder by pressing option+command+Esc keys which opens a panel where you select Finder and click Relaunch. If this is not responsive, then press and hold your power button until either you receive a dialog to shutdown, or the Mac powers off. Now, power on your Mac again.
