I tried to make a payment on an online store using Apple Pay. After finger print verification, I am prompted "phone number invalid", while the number is definitely correct. I tried adding another number and got the same error. My Apple Pay is working on physical readers, I use. it all the time. I'm in the US and there's nothing weird about my number. It's just a vanilla 10 digit number. I have tried with or without country code.
I realized that my Apple account included a +1 in front of my phone number. Once I added that, the problem was resolved. You may want to try that.

Add +1 in front of your phone number. I had same issue and this worked.
The correct phone number is listed. Nothing seems to be out of ordinary.

No, it happens with all the cards.

I didn’t bother. I simply used other methods of payment.

When you go to settings>Wallet & Apple Pay>transaction defaults>phone number - what is listed there?
What about for your Apple ID? Settings>Apple ID (your name the top)>Name, Phone numbers, Email>what is listed there?
The correct phone number is listed there. It looks completely normal
