Touchscreen partially unresponsive until sleep/wake up (iPad Mini 5)

Hello,

recently my touchscreen started acting weird. Randomly, after a while on the iPad, it becomes unresponsive. But not the entire touchscreen, but its full width in the middle, from the home button to the camera lens (approximately 1 cm thick). What is even weirder, is the fact that after I push sleep button and then press it again to wake it up, it works perfectly fine. At least until it happens again. I tried restarting, hard reset and even full reset. Right now it's on iOS 14, but it's happening since last week or so, so on iOS 13.x it was happening as well. I can’t see any scheme here, it happens totally randomly. Sometimes when I’m using Safari, sometimes during Netflix, YouTube or during gaming and so on. At first I was afraid that it’s hardware issue, but since it works perfectly for some time after sleep/wake up, I’m guessing it might be software problem (?).

Any ideas?

Cheers!

Hey g-zs,

We understand you're having an issue with your iPad screen becoming unresponsive after some use. You've provided some great details! Take a look at the following steps to see if it helps: If the screen isn’t working on your iPhone or iPad

We also recommend ensuring your iPad is updated to 14.0.1, and that your apps are updated. To find out the exact software version installed, tap Settings > General > About. If an update is needed, be sure back up your iPad first:

Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Update apps or use automatic downloads

Let us know how that goes.

Take care.

Hello,

Thank you for your input, I do appreciate the effort :) Unfortunately so far nothing works :(

After few phone conversations with support, last thing I did was clean reset without loading backup, as the idea was that backup file might be corrupted. IPad is updated to 14.0.1(almost since the very moment the update shown up :D) and problem is still happening. Right now I have feeling it’s happening more often, additionally touchscreen is acting like it’s being touched randomly, even when the unit isn’t in my hands.

I have set up next call with support on Monday, I’ll keep this thread updated as I did not find so far any info about this problem. I hope this might help someone in the future :)
