If you upgrade through Software Update, then the upgrade will be the last version with which your hardware is compatible. If your computer can run Mojave, then it can run Catalina. Catalina is what you will be required to download. If you do not want to upgrade to Catalina, then you need a working link for Mojave. Your computer must be running El Capitan or later in order to upgrade.
