Filter failed when trying to print

I am using a MacBook Air & HP LaserJet CP 1025 NW printer, and keep getting "filter failed" when trying to print. Iv'e tried resetting the print system and re-installing the printers, but nothing seems to work. I have also tried setting up the printer using USB to connect, which seems to work until I tried to printing then I got a message stating that "the printer is an error state". Can anyone point me to a solution.

Has the printer had its firmware updated? Recent updates appear to be available on HP's support page (to be applied via macOS 10.14, Windows 10, and other system versions).


Interesting to note is that an HP LaserJet Pro CP1025nw was in a list in an old iOS: AirPrint 101 Apple article (HT4356 - modified February 13, 2012) as a printer that supports AirPrint. However, the printer is not mentioned in the latest About AirPrint - Apple Support.
