Touchscreen acting strange after iOS 14 update

I have an iPhone XS Max and I’ve just updated the phone to iOS 14.

Areas of the screen becomes unresponsive many times during the day. Locking the screen and unlocking it again seems to temporarily fix the issue. Removed the screen protector, and restarting the phone doesn’t seem to fix the issue. Updated to iOS 14.1 and the issue remains to emerge every once in a while during the day making it difficult to operate, navigate and especially type on the phone.

I have the same issue I just bought a XR and wasted money on screen protectors because I thought maybe that was the issue now that I’m reading this I understand it’s more than likely a iOS 14 bug that needs fixing if it’s a hardware issue and it eventually gets verified then apple better hope they fix the issue because this phone is brand new literally bought it this morning November 14 2020 and yes I have Apple care so let’s hope it’s just an iOS 14 problem

Nope it’s on keyboard in general like when I swipe down to look for apps or do a quick web search from Home Screen the backspace key when pressed presses v b and n keys instead and sometimes in a random situation the bottom of the screen isn’t responding to touches but mainly the key pad issue is what I’m having a quick sleep button and walking the phone back up usually makes it stop glitching sooo idk

And then, because this iphone x is my secondary phone so im not login to email apps , so i try to login to email , but the ghost touch come back. Then i logged out the email then i delete the email. The ghost touch disapear again. I believe this problem is not hardware case but its a software case

And now they're sending out fixes for the brand new 12 series! The rest of us can get screwed. This tells me that in two years, when the 15s or 16s or whatevers are out, Apple will be treating them the same way that they're treating the rest of us now, those of us who spent $1000 on a phone two years ago, but who may not - particularly in the middle of an expensive pandemic - have the money with which to buy a new phone. I am so done with this company, and its failures to stand behind its devices. And I say this being old enough to remember my Mac Classic, which I loved. RIP Apple.

I take back what i said.. it seems that some initial app updates the problem was gone but after doing more app updates, the touchscreen becomes unresponsive for longer periods of time now and more often... i hope all of you are opening cases with apple support like i am to address this situation... apple support doesn't care about these forums, just their ticket volume

swapping with a new iPhone (proposed by Apple) is not a solution. You would do a full restore of your settings and hope.

I have tested my X restoring from different backups e.g. from a 6p and from my X before trying out different settings.

Worst behavior was with the 6p . I guess the default setting coming from iOS 12.4.9 to iOS14.x using new features from the hardware are accelerating the ghost touches. I have similar problems with non responsive areas with a brand new 12pm.

And it doesn't come from apps as the behaviour doesn't change even after updating apps.

Switching off several settings using touch features (slide to type, 3D touch, etc.) help a wee bit.

It is definitely a iOS 14 software quality assurance problem and Apple is still ignoring, that there is a problem.

So, some details on the difficulty I’m having with the three apps I use most extensively:

Google Calendar, Apple’s Notes, and Safari.

iPhone X, iOS 14.2.

Entering text in all three eventually grinds to a halt once a couple long paragraphs get entered. Key presses lag, typing becomes nearly impossible. Selecting and editing text, or simply placing the cursor becomes completely impossible.

gCal:

After a couple minutes of use, invariably the app stops responding to touches on the bottom third of the screen — in month view, you can only select events in the top three rows. Touches below do not register. Same goes for the schedule view, or the edit event view (changing calendars or colors or whatever).

Also disabled is the “+” button to add a new event.

NOT disabled in any of these above scenarios is the ability to swipe from the bottom to return to the home page. The touchscreen still works, just not in the affected apps.

In gCal,

Oddly, if you rotate your phone to landscape, the “right” third (bottom third) of the screen becomes responsive to touch again. This will even linger for a few moments if you select something, and then rotate back to portrait. But, alas, it won’t be long till it stops responding again.
