Slow start up & unexpected quit issues
Hi, everyone!
I’ve been having start-up issues with my iMac since it came out of the box, and I’m wondering whether or not this is normal and how I can fix it.
Issues
- The computer takes 8-10 minutes to go from the black Apple logo start up page to my desktop.
- Once I’m at the desktop, it takes about 3-4 minutes for any program to launch.
- When I type a URL in Safari, it takes about 4-5 minutes for a webpage to load.
- Sometimes (I haven’t been able to figure out the pattern of when/why this happens yet) Pages and/or Keynote will “unexpectedly quit” and it’ll ask me if I want to send a report to Apple.
Things I have tried:
- installing updates
- repairingr disks
- investigating RAM usage (it came with 8 RAMS)
- disabling backup (Time Machine)
- reconnecting and rebooting internet connection
- un-syncing all other Apple devices
- turning off Bluetooth and using a USB mouse and keyboard
When these issues started happening, I was only using about 20% of the storage; I think I’m at around 40% now.
I should have taken it to the Mac store as soon as I started having these issues about three years ago; instead I continued using my iPhone and iPad for every day tasks and using the computer only when I had to.
Now that I have to use the computer frequently, it’s driving me nuts. Haha.
Any insight you all can offer will be greatly appreciated! :)
