Full screen mode not working on my MacBook Air

I noticed the other day that I cannot enter full screen mode on anything, including Safari, Google Chrome, Microsoft Excel, essentially every application I have on here. I've tried control + command + F and the green button in the upper left corner. How can I fix this?
