How can I save Motion 5 files before uninstalling?

I am using a work computer where my copy of Motion 5 was downloaded by an old employee with their Apple id. I would like to re-purchase Motion 5 using my account so I can continue updating Motion 5. Currently every time I try to update, it just asks for their login.

I've been told I need to uninstall Motion entirely and then will be able to purchase with my id, however I have a lot of templates, effects and other things currently in my motion templates folder, which are also linked to FCPX. I'm worried that by uninstalling Motion, I will lose and/or disconnect a lot of content from Final Cut X.

Can someone recommend good steps to take to ensure I can re-purchase Motion under my account without losing everything associating with the Motion app?

You won't lose anything, but as always, you should have a backup first.

Files inside the Motion Templates will be left there if you delete Motion. They are completely separate.

They will continue to work in FCP, too. In fact, a lot of FCP users have many templates and never had Motion installed.
