Universal Search: Swiping down from center brings up Notification Center

Updated my iOS to 14. Now, on my iPad, when I swipe down from the center of the home screen, it brings up the notification center (which is the same behavior as iOS13). From there, I used to be able to swipe to the right to get to the widgets, etc., including a search bar. Now there is no search bar in the aforementioned place, and swiping down from the center of the home screen does not reveal a universal search (like Spotlight on the MBP?).

Behavior is the same if iPad is in vertical or horizontal format. I have not tried the keyboard shortcuts to see if that yields any results. Most often I don't have the keyboard attached, so I would like to figure this out.

Is there a setting or something that I need to turn on or off? What else might be the cause?

Thank you, smart people!

The Notification Centre can only be summoned through swiping downwards from the top edge of the screen - of which you appear to be very adept.

To reiterate, swiping downwards from any empty area of a Home Screen other than the edges or corners will expose the Search dialogue.
