Command line developer tools and "git"

I have recently loaded Anaconda onto my new Mac. I am having trouble with installation of "git" and command line developer tools, because the Software Update server is not available for the relevant download.

Each time I open Spyder from Anaconda, I am presented with an installation wizard to download and install command line developer software permitting "git" command to be used. I agree the licence terms, but the wizard then fails to download the software, with the statement that the download is not available from the Software Update server.

I'm new to Python and Anaconda and while both seem to be working, it is a distraction to have the installer appearing all the time, and I am a bit concerned that "git" may be important to my future use of both.

Any suggestions?

Git is a version control system that lets you manage and keep track of your source code history, in particular derivative works. That would seem vitally important to any developer.

Other options for getting Git:

  • Git ships with Apple’s Xcode.
  • Tim Harper provides a stand-alone installer for Git.
  • Homebrew helps with getting software through Terminal: $ brew install git
  • If you prefer to build from source, you can find git on kernel.org.
