Personal Hotspot disappeared with iOS 14

I’ve lost the option of personal hotspot for my iphone xs after the upgrade to ios 14 and 14.1 doesn’t fix the problem. It disappeared from the list settings. What could I do?

Hi,

If Personal Hotspot disappear from your device (it should be visible already when you open Settings, right under the Mobile Data),

or you can't use your mobile internet, there are few easy steps to perform to get it back (no re-starting, switching to airplane mode needed):

  1. Open Settings -> Mobile Data -> Mobile Data Network
  2. When you are inside Mobile Data Network, make sure that Mobile Data: APN, Username/Password, and Personal Hotspot: APN, Username/Password values are not empty! If they are empty, you have to google which data should be provided for your particular Mobile phone operator company.

In my case, I had lifecell, and the only thing I had to do was to type APN = internet for Personal Hotspot and for Mobile Data.

and

After these easy steps, Personal Hotspot appeared again.

I hope it helped you.

1) Try and Force Restart your iPhone exactly as shown below and see whether that resolves the issue:

  • Press and quickly release Volume UP button
  • Press and quickly release Volume DOWN button
  • Press and Hold the SIDE button until an Apple logo appears then release the Side button (Can take up to 20 seconds. DO NOT release Side Button when invited to Slide Power OFF).

(2) If the above does not solve the issue then- See whether a carrier update is needed. Open Settings ➔ General ➔ About : Once you get there then if there is a carrier update needed then a window will automatically pop up asking your permission to update the Carrier settings. If the window does not pop up then there is no carrier update available.

(3) If the above does not work then - Contact your cellular service provider to ensure that the hotspot feature is activated at their end.

I had the same problem and was able to get the hotspot back with my iPhone 8. With the phone on, remove SIM card. Shut down phone. Turn on phone and wait for the Home Screen. Replace the SIM card. Go to settings and toggle airplane mode on, then toggle airplane mode off. Wait about 10 seconds or so and see if hotspot returns.

Axle f’s solution failed on all counts.

  1. still states “set up personal hotspot “
  2. no carrier update needed
  3. carrier shows hotspot is active

moved sim to pixel 3, 4 and Samsung s20 fe 5G and hotspot works fine on android.

tested on iPhone se2020 and my iPhone XR

FAILED ON IOS

does any one have a solution on the back end???

feeling I should go back to android again I have more issues on apple :(

In my case hotspot setting got lost somewhere around upgrade to 14.6 (iPhone CE 2020). After resetting settings and re-entering the APNs cfg I got "Setup personal hotspot" setting (which wasn't working).

Solution was to replace sim card (with new duplicate received from carrier). Per Apple Support - "older cards may have some compatibility issues with particular models". My sim was from 2001 and it was working correctly with iPhone Xr but not my CE. The Apple Support has also stated that this "compatibility" problem may rise after iOS upgrade (as was in my case) ...
