No "Annotate" button on "Markup" toolbar in Preview on Mac

I know it's to use the iPhone to sketch on your Mac. But it is only accessible when using QuickView. You cannot access it when in Preview on the Mac itself, yet the Support Guide leads one to believe that you can.

Note that Preview is not listed. I know Pages works.

Yep. iPhone X running iOS 14, and brand new spanking 21 inch Mac running Catalina. Can you do it? I doubt it. Do a Quickview on a PDF and you will see the option to annotate on your iPhone. Make a squiggle on your iPhone and view it on your Mac screen on the PDF like magic. Yet, try to do the same thing in Preview itself on your Mac and you will see that the Markup bar does NOT offer the annotate from your iPhone/iPad option even thought the Support Guide says it does.

I did try to give this Feedback to Apple but Preview is not one of the apps that you can provide feedback on!

i should have added, you need to set up your devices to Use Continuity Markup.

and i'm sure you could give apple feedback about your issue.

the annotate button for use in preview is found on your iOS device that must be connected to your mac. you make the annotations on it, not the mac.

is that what you are trying?

that being the case, i hate to ask. but have you checked to make sure your hardware is compatible with that feature?

idk if i can do it or not. my iPad is too old. i asked my aunt about it and then i just let you know where she pointed me. sorry, i'll waste no more of your time.

First of all, THANK YOU, for pointing out that you CAN do this in QuickLook. At least I know I'm not crazy because I was trying to find the exact same thing as you...given the Apple Support guide. It looks like one can only do this in QuickLook for now. Super interesting. I would say it's a bug!
