8th Generation iPad Keyboard Compatibility

I am in the process of purchasing the new 8th generation iPad and haven't been able to work out whether a keyboard for the 7th generation iPad would be compatible.

I spoke with an Apple representative who thought that the 7th gen keyboard wouldn't be compatible but I have seen them advertised by one third party seller that Logitech has one keyboard on the market which is compatible with both the 7th and 8th generation iPad.

Any advice or suggestions from the community would be appreciated.
