Certain images visible in Photos, but cannot locate, export, edit, etc.

A few of my Photos images - very conveniently favorites- are viewable in the application but not accessible for exporting, editing, selecting to attach to emails or anything. Just a teaser of a view in the Photos library. I have done a tedious and time consuming scrub of the Library after selecting "Showing Package Contents". Nada.

Pop up message when I try to edit: Photos can not load adjustments for this image.

Message when I try to export: "Export complete with errors. Operation failed to create a file for the photo identified below. Unknown error (4)". Trying to reveal in finder yields nothing.

I have repaired and restored the Photos program twice.

Interestingly enough some of the other photos from this particular collection (taken on the same date) are accessible for export, edit, etc., but one of the favorites is a no-go.

Any other ideas? thanks!

What do you mean by "I have done a tedious and time consuming scrub of the Library after selecting "Showing Package Contents"."?

If you have done any editing within the package, (Including deleting or moving any files) it is likely you have damaged your library.

Are all the images stored in the library, or as external referenced images?

When I get the "Cannot load adjustments" error message, the adjustments have usually been created with a different photo editor, for example with iPhoto or Aperture, or on an iPhone or iPad with a newer system version. In that case it will help to revert the photo to the original. After reverting to the original (in the edit panel) Photos is frequently able to export the photo or to add additional adjustments.
