iPad Air4 requires a second generation Apple Pencil. The first generation Pencil is not compatible with Air4.

The Air4 uses the same magnetic pairing/charging dock on the flat edge of the iPad, as the 2018/2020 iPad Pro. The Air4 also has a USB-C connection, in place of Lightning.
