"Garageband cannot be opened because of a problem. Check w/ developer... may need to re-install"

I'm using 10.13.6 but older Garageband (that I understand) 6.0.3. I'm old too.

Won't open now. How can I re-install app so my (older) tracks will play and work as they use to?

If I re-install or update iTunes (12.8.2.3 currently) will it prevent me from using "old" version of GB?

VERY grateful for any help or suggestions. I want my tracks/orig songs back ;-)

Hello Scott Duncan2,

After reviewing your post, it seems like GarageBand will not open on the Mac. We would recommend you use this article to help troubleshoot the issue. The current version of GarageBand is 10.3.5, so if you are using 6.0.3 that may be the reason.

Is there a reason you have not updated?

  • "The app may be damaged. Try reinstalling it. If you still can’t open the app, contact the app’s manufacturer.
  • If you recently installed a new version of macOS, some apps may need to be updated or reinstalled to work correctly."
